Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary

May 2025

Fifty years ago, on 10 May 1975, the official opening took place of a new building for Easingwold Methodist Church.  This resulted from the endeavours of the Methodist people in Easingwold, who came together as one body in 1969, amalgamating the former Spring Street and Wesley Chapels.  Six years later, after much fund-raising, generous grants from outside bodies, and the sale of property, the building could finally open with great rejoicing and thanksgiving at a service attended by over 400 people.

This event and the subsequent fifty years were celebrated at an Anniversary Weekend on 17-18 May 2025.  The church was open to all for a coffee morning on the Saturday morning, giving people the opportunity to view the building and look at many displays of photographs and other information from times gone by.

Celebratory artwork had been contributed by each of the groups that used the church building on a regular basis, whilst tea, coffee and lots of delicious cakes and biscuits were freely available (served - at front of house - by members of the Men's Group who run the Oasis Café that is held on the last Friday morning of most months). The whole celebration was accompanied by members of the Easingwold Town Band, who entertained people as they sat outside enjoying the sun, refreshments and music.

A service of Thanksgiving followed on Sunday 18th May, at which former ministers of the Church, Revs Elizabeth Cushion and Ruth Duck, presided.  This was followed by a Bring and Share lunch, with congregations from other Easingwold churches and local Methodist churches invited.
